Distant Echoes (2025)

Along a tree-lined canal in Kyoto, Japan, runs a footpath. To the locals, it's known as Tetsugaku No Michi. But to you and me, it’s the Philosopher's Path. It was the favourite stroll of Japanese thinker Nishida Kitarō, whose work reconciled Western rationalism with traditional moral insights from the East. Kitarō saw unity in “the dynamic tension of opposites.”

In the summer of 1945, while US military generals weighed up targets for their atomic bomb, Nishida Kitarō walked the path for the last time. His adopted city, the ancient Japanese capital of Kyoto, with all its history and cultural significance, was in the crosshairs. That was until one man's romantic flashback changed things.
